and observer. he is in raleigh, n.c., this morning. welcome to the program. host: tell us what makes north carolina battleground state. guest: traditionally, it has been a red state. it is moving more and more into a competitive state, and there are several reasons why. one of the things our organization does is ask every year the voters where they stand in terms of conservative level. only florida and virginia, in terms of southern states, are to the left, so it is pretty divided. it also has political progressives, so it has been pretty much a modern state traditionally. there has been a tremendous influx of people from around the country. particularly in the big metropolitan areas, and none has been changing the politics over the years. in addition, it has a significant african-american population. 22% is african american, which is the largest african-american population in about ground. all of those factors have put north carolina at into play. >> recently, you wrote an article with the headline, north carolina more like wisconsin than you might think. give us the comparison betw

up and down the east coast. it's still 76 in raleigh, 87 for their high temperature today and 20 degrees cooler in pittsburgh at 67 this hour. most of us are seeing either fog or mist and a little drizzle. check out this the line that is growing coming through fauquier county. i'm going to put this in motion. you'll see right around the warrenton area as this comes up from the south in the last hour it's kind of holding together. heads up prince william county and manassas into chantilly. you might be getting some brief heavy downpours. the bulk of the heavier an unthat produced a couple inches in -- heavy rain that produced a couple inches is now gone. we'll keep a shower in the forecast overnight, isolated heavy downpour. most of tomorrow will be on the dry side. because this warm front will be hanging around, there could be a spotty shower or thunderstorm especially in the afternoon. that will pretty much be the same forecast for our thursday. going into the weekend i think friday looks terrific and a big change-up for the weekend. we've got three warm days we're expecting. th

raleigh, that's moving to the north northeast and that's what i think could be getting here in few hours. as you look at the doppler radar this morning just an isolated shower or two. heaviest stuff near annapolis. now with monika samtani on this friday morning, timesaver traffic. i saw a camera back there the beltway ugly. >>> yeah so ugly and i can't believe it's only 5:00 in the morning. but, hence it's washington. and u know, but normally on friday mornings we don't deal with this. today is a different story. let's take a look live on the inner loop of the beltway before route 355. take a look at this. this delay now begins right through bethesda heading eastbound toward route 355. and it doesn't even look like anything is moving right now. and that's because there are two tractor-trailers, two separate accidents got involved there before route 355. wreckers on the scene, t it's going to take a little while to clean this up. i believe one of the accidents involves a fuel spill now as well. so keep that in mind for your travel plans and know that it's going to take you much longer tha
